As I thought about this quote, I was reminded of the importance of “sharpening the saw”. Stephen Covey coined this phrase in his book, “The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People”. It is habit #7 and to me, it’s one of the most important.
If you do not take time to grow, improve and learn on a regular basis, how will you be able to jumpstart those on your team and in your circle?
So what keeps us from charging up or sharpening the saw? If you are like me, you’re running in many different direction everyday. It is difficult to carve out the time to stay ahead of the curve.
I thought of a few things that may be helpful:
- Build a time into your day that is set aside for personal development…I like to do this in the car.
- Look into a subscription service such as Audible that reads books to you.
- Make time to learn from others. Mastermind groups are fabulous as well as leadership training and workshops.
